Welcome to The Knife and Cleaver

Welcome to the Knife and Cleaver Website, we look forward to you seeing the real thing in the near future. This friendly 17th century country inn is situated in the quiet village of Houghton Conquest, opposite the medieval church of All Saints, the largest parish church in Bedfordshire. It is a well established English country inn with great food and rooms. Situated just off the A6, 5 miles south of Bedford, it is convenient for Luton Airport, the M1 Junctions 12/13 and both Flitwick and Bedford railway station. There are lots of things to do and see in the area - from Woburn Safari Park to walking the Greenslade way.

Records put the pub at 1796 but it is thought to be older. Originally called the Butchers Arms and was owned as part of the manor house and the Conquest family who owned the Manor from the 13th Century, when it was named Conquestbury or Houghtonbury. We have a couple of resident ghosts, so if you feel a draught it might not be a window open...
